PITTSFIELD -- Two workers at a Stockbridge school for
emotionally troubled teens have pleaded not guilty to charges
stemming from a medication overdose suffered by an 18-year-old
student. Marcus Pritchett, 37, and JoAnn McIntyre, 29, both of
Stockbridge and employees of the DeSisto School, were arraigned
in Berkshire Superior Court on a single count each of abuse or
neglect of a disabled person resulting in bodily injury. They were

When a student runs away from the DeSisto School -- the
$46,000-a-year therapeutic school in the Berkshires that has been
the target of state abuse investigations and dozens of lawsuits --
parents are told not to take their children back home or even to
accept their phone calls.

STOCKBRIDGE -- Whenever Nathaniel Davies tried to run away
from his $46,000-a-year-boarding school here, staff and students
would chase him down, throw him to the ground and beat him.
Afterward, he says, they would ``corner'' him, forcing him to face a
wall and beg for forgiveness.

Davies, now 21 and earning straight A's at another school,
considers his treatment abuse. But officials at The DeSisto School
say they are only teaching troubled teen-agers a lesson, one that is
uncomfortable but necessary.
